6 Great Events Highlight Father's Day Weekend 2017

June 14, 2017

If you want to know what’s happening during the next few days here in the coastal region, then this is the place you definitely want to be every week around this time.

That’s right, it’s time once again for our regularly scheduled “Weekender Blog,”brought to you each week by the real estate professionals at the Oldfather Group of Ocean Atlantic Sotheby’s International Realty.

For most visitors, we know that a trip to the boardwalk/beach dominates pretty much any summertime trip to coastal Delaware. Quite frankly, that’s the way it should be and we know that’s never going to change.

But for those of us who live and work here year-round, or even for our visitors who want to venture away from the sand and the water for a short while, we aim each week to bring you some of the area’s most fun and exciting annual happenings.

And for this third weekend of June, we have some great choices lined up for you, ranging from a trio of events centered in and around Lewes to one of the region’s most spectacular air shows in Ocean City.

So let’s take a look at what we have for the upcoming weekend here in the coastal region. We begin with…

Old Timer’s Day (June 17). This is the 60th year for this popular coastal Delaware festival in Selbyville. Jointly sponsored by the Town of Selbyville and the Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce, this traditional celebration features cars, tractors and emergency vehicles that are more than 30 years old, as well as live music, lots of vendors, plenty of rides and activities for the kids and door prizes.

The festival runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., this Saturday, June 17, in downtown Selbyville. Click HERE for more information on this fun annual event.

Ocean City Air Show (June 17-18). The U.S. Navy Blue Angels will once again be headlining this year's popular air show in Ocean City. This is the 10th year for the event and is scheduled for this Saturday and Sunday, June 17 and 18, in Maryland's most frequently visited resort city.

Other demonstrations for the event include the F-22 Raptor, the B-2 Stealth Bomber, the United States Marine Corps Osprey, the A-10 Warthog and civilian performers like the Geico Skytrypers.

Tickets can be purchased for several different viewing areas, including the Flight Line Club, Drop Zone Beach (known as the aerial "50 yard line") and the VIP Skybox.

2017 Chautauqua Tent Show (June 18-22). This festival, modeled after the popular ones that have taken place in upstate New York for decades, is held at locations throughout Lewes, including the Zwaanendael Museum, the Lewes Public Library and the Lewes Historical Society complex.

While these events are held throughout the country, the version in Lewes features re-enactors who take on the personas of historical figures and educate their audiences on many different moments and events that took place through the years.

There are also several educational lectures and presentations during the five days of the festival. For a complete schedule of events, visit historiclewes.org.
