Bayhealth Designated as National Certified Gold Safe Sleep Champion

April 12, 2017

Bayhealth’s Milford Memorial and Bayhealth Hospital, Kent Campus were recently designated by the National Safe Sleep Hospital Certification Program as a Gold Safe Sleep Champion. This is the highest certification level offered through the program, which recognizes hospitals for their commitment to best practices and education on infant safe sleep as part of efforts to help lower infant mortality rates.

The National Safe Sleep Hospital Certification Program was created by Cribs for Kids®, an organization dedicated to preventing infant, sleep-related deaths due to accidental suffocation. In addition to being partners with Cribs for Kids®, Bayhealth received the designation because it follows the safe sleep guidelines recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and provides training for parents, staff and the community.

“We are very proud of this accomplishment,” said Senior Director of Bayhealth’s Women’s and Children’s Services Ronnie Kopec. “This certification exemplifies our department’s compassion and drive to provide the best care to infants and their families, as well as Bayhealth’s overall mission to strengthen the health of our community, one life at a time. Delaware is the only state in the country in which all hospitals are certified under the Safe Sleep program.”

Cribs for Kids® partnered with leading infant health and safety organizations such as All Baby & Child; The National Center for the Review & Prevention of Child Deaths; Association of SIDS and Infant Mortality Programs; and American SIDS Institute, to name a few, and numerous state American Academy of Pediatric chapters and health departments to create the National Safe Sleep Hospital Certification Program.
