Bethany Beach is the Place to Be During the Final Weekend of January

January 19, 2018

Rehoboth Beach has the Chocolate Festival and the Polar Bear Plunge, and there a few other wintertime activities in Southern Delaware, including the increasingly popular Delmarva Birding Weekend and the dueling Oyster Eat and Shrimp Feast events coming up in February.

But for the most part, we're in the middle of the 2018 offseason and the Delaware beaches are sort of hibernating and preparing for the return of the warm weather season in a few months.

But not during the three-day weekend of January 26-28 when the usually "Quiet Resort" of Bethany Beach springs to life and welcomes residents and visitors alike to the inaugural "Fire & Ice Festival" in the downtown area of the resort.

The festival is expected to draw good crowds during it's three days, and the weekend provides great opportunities for enjoying the resort during a less crowded time of the year.

Now, let's give you some of the highlights of Bethany Beach's inaugural "Fire & Ice Festival," planned for Friday, January 26 through Sunday January 28 in the resort.

  • Ice Skating Rink. Sponsored by Southern Delaware Tourism, the skating rink will be located on Hollywood Street and will be open on Friday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • The Funsters. The popular musical group will be performing at Mango's on Friday evening from 7 to 11 p.m.
  • Live Ice Carving. Friday at 4 p.m. on the Boardwalk at Hollywood Street.
  • Street Performance. Cascading Carlos will be performing on Saturday from 12 to 4 p.m. on the Boardwalk and at the Bandstand.
  • Beach Bonfire. The "fire" portion of the event, this will take place on Saturday afternoon, beginning at 5:00.
  • Culinary Showcase. This wraps up the festival on Sunday afternoon and features several of the resort's most popular restaurants, including Bethany Blues99 Sea Level and Sedona. Please note that there is a fee involved with this particular event.

We also want to tell you about some of the other great things to do in the Bethany Beach area during the offseason, but we're going to do that in a separate blog posting in a couple of weeks.

So be on the lookout for that, as we give you many choices for fun offseason activities to get you by until the return of Spring in a couple of months.
