The CIA, Espionage, & the Vietnam War

February 15, 2018

Operation Chaos is the code name for the secret CIA mission to infiltrate a group of former soldiers who gathered in Sweden to resist the war in Vietnam. For the first time ever, British journalist and BBC Radio presenter Matthew Sweet offers an inside look into this bizarre chapter of U.S. espionage.

In his new book, OPERATION CHAOS , author Matthew Sweet describes how former soldiers formed the American Deserters Committee in Sweden to protest the Vietnam War. The Swedes treated them like rock stars – but the CIA was determined to stop all that. So Operation Chaos sent CIA operatives in to infiltrate the group, sow dissension among their ranks and disrupt their plans. Within months the G.I.’s had turned on one another, and they began to interrogate themselves to see who had been brainwashed. Matthew Sweet sought out these men of the ADC, became their confidant, and describes their peculiar sides of the story. The picture Sweet paints is a madcap atmosphere that will keep audiences riveted until the very end of this true life undercover mission.
