  • Healthgrades Recognizes Beebe with the Pulmonary Care Excellence Award
  • Names Beebe a 5-star recipient in seven clinical areas including Stroke and Total Knee Replacement

Healthgrades® has announced that Beebe Healthcare has been named one of America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Coronary Intervention Procedures™ in 2017. Beebe is the only hospital on Delmarva to receive this recognition, and is among the Top 5 percent of hospitals in the nation for coronary intervention procedures. These procedures include the life-saving balloon angioplasties with stent insertions that open coronary arteries blocked during a heart attack.

Beebe Healthcare also is the recipient of Healthgrades Pulmonary Care Excellence Award for 2017. This award reflects the care Beebe’s multidisciplinary team of pulmonologists, respiratory therapists and others provide patients which lung and breathing problems, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Healthgrades is the leading online resource helping consumers make informed decisions to find the right doctor, the right hospital for the right care.=

Beebe Healthcare also received eight Healthgrades Five-Star ratings in clinical areas. A Five-Star rating indicates that Beebe’s clinical outcomes are statistically significantly better than expected when treating the condition or performing the procedure being evaluated, according to Healthgrades.

They are:

  • Five-Star recipient for Total Knee Replacement for 14 Years in a Row (2004-2017), the only on Delmarva;
  • Five-Star Recipient for Spinal Fusion Surgery for 8 Years in a Row (2010-2017).
  •  Five-Star Recipient for Total Hip Replacement in 2017.
  • Five-Star designations in Stroke, Pneumonia, Sepsis, and Respiratory Failure.

“We are pleased to share this recognition from Healthgrades with our patients and community members, as it demonstrates Beebe’s ongoing commitment to quality,” said Jeffrey M. Fried, FACHE, President and CEO, Beebe Healthcare.

“This kind of achievement is only possible because of the hard work of our physicians, nurses, and other members of our Cardiac, Stroke, Respiratory, Orthopaedic, Emergency, Critical Care, and Surgical teams, who take great pride in what they do for our patients.  They come to work every day wanting to ensure that our patients get the best possible care and have the best possible experience.”

Beebe Healthcare’s achievements are part of new findings and data Healthgrades released October 18, 2016, and is featured in the Healthgrades 2017 Report to the Nation.

 “Hospitals that have achieved Healthgrades 5-stars have demonstrated a commitment to exceptional quality care for their patients,” said Evan Marks, Chief Strategy Officer, Healthgrades. “In an environment where consumers have more choices about where to receive their care, a hospital’s commitment to achieving a superior degree of quality for their patients is more important than ever.”

Every year,Healthgrades evaluates hospital performance at nearly 4,500 hospitals nationwide for 34 of the most common inpatient procedures and conditions.*

The new report demonstrates how clinical performance continues to differ dramatically between hospitals regionally and nationally. This variation in care has a significant impact on health outcomes. For example, from 2013-2015, if all hospitals as a group, performed similarly to hospitals receiving 5-stars as a group, on average 223,412 lives could potentially have been saved and 162,215 complications could potentially have been avoided.**=

*For its analysis, Healthgrades evaluated approximately 45 million Medicare inpatient records for nearly 4,500 short-term acute care hospitals nationwide, assessing hospital performance relative to each of 32 common conditions and procedures, as well as an evaluation of comparative outcomes in appendectomy and bariatric surgery using all-payer data provided by 18 states. Healthgrades recognizes a hospital’s quality achievements for cohort-specific performance, specialty area performance, and overall clinical quality. Individual procedure or condition cohorts are designated as 5-star (statistically significantly better than expected), 3-star (not statistically different from expected) and 1-star (statistically significantly worse than expected) categories. The complete Healthgrades 2017 Report to the Nation and detailed study methodology, can be found at www.healthgrades.com/quality.

**Statistics are based on Healthgrades analysis of MedPAR data for years 2013 through 2015 and represent 3-year estimates for Medicare patients only.
