Help us catch Georgetown’s Most Wanted Thieves – cash reward is $1,000.00 for information leading to arrest(s) and conviction(s)!

Early on Wednesday July 12th & again on Tuesday July 25th, one or more individuals proved themselves to be the “Most Wanted Thieves in Georgetown” and we need the community’s help to catch them!

We strive to be good neighbors and provide members of our community a safe place for outside recreation, and it always feels quite violating to be robbed, not once but twice. As of now, we’re offering a $1,000 cash reward to anyone with information leading to arrest(s) and conviction. A tip line is in progress and an update will be posted once it has been established: meanwhile, call 302-856-5850 to aid in the ongoing investigation. In addition to a minimal amount of cash, at least 15 brand-new pairs of Oakley sunglasses were among the stolen items, so please be on the lookout for any local third-party sellers of both men’s and women’s styles.

To the thief(ves) themselves: if you are reading this, and need to seek substance abuse treatment we suggest the Southern DE Crisis Intervention Line: 800-345-6785 (via DHSS) We would also like to better explain this situation to you the thief(ves) and why it’s wrong. Here’s a simple breakdown of what you thought you took...versus what you actually stole:

What you thought you took at the Gift Shop/Concessions Stand: an insignificant sum of money, a rock to break the door, and some grab-and-go merchandise

What you actually stole: Your illegal actions (not once but twice in under 2 weeks) affect not only a loss and gain of goods, but a loss of time and effort from a sizable team of tournament and park staff. This team works extremely hard, 7 days per week/every week, to provide visiting baseball players and families with the best possible experience while here in Delaware. You have not only stolen (inconsequential) amounts of money, but the well-deserved rewards and satisfaction of seeing that hard work in action...especially on a tight turnaround schedule.

What you thought you took at the Indoor: money from a few Pickleball / baseball lessons

What you actually stole: The integrity of a facility where many law enforcement officers (who are also coaches) bring their teams to practice and play all throughout the year. Apparently you the thief(ves) feel it’s worth risking a criminal record by forcing your way into a place with very low cash flow...and in doing so, you’ve also affected a longstanding honor system among the police officers and other prominent members of the community, including children and families, who use it frequently for fun and fitness events.

What you thought you took at SATB: Money that is generated in the local community

What you actually stole: Trust that is generated in the local community

Due to this incident, we have little choice but to enforce after-hours restrictions on our facility, which is private property. On behalf of the thief(ves), we must ask all the teams, coaches, families, and friends who use our practice fields, batting cages, playgrounds and basketball courts (free of charge) to please vacate the premises by dusk going forward. Our new alarm system, patrolling officers, additional cameras and lighting will serve as continued security for those who frequently enjoy our complex.

One more clarification, in case the thief(ves) did not understand what the “Help Wanted” entails as displayed on our giant LED sign. As it turns out, it’s not difficult to arrive at our complex and get money from us every single day: we call it a job. And yes, we are certainly hiring: we encourage our readers--with the thief(ves) excluded--to visit our website, view open positions and apply.

We are thankful that no one was seriously harmed by these 2 incidents...and the next time you the thief(ves) feel the need to stop by and steal at 2am, feel free to ask our security personnel and 3-dog Mastiff Guard Squad for a full complex tour. Spoiler alert: You will most likely be redirected just down the road to the Georgetown Police Headquarters, followed by a visit to the nearby county courthouse.

Mastiff Facts: With their weight combined, the SATB Mastiffs (a breed known for protection and extreme loyalty) weigh as much as a male Elk, a baby grand piano, or a cubic meter of snow!
