Leave Your Mark on the New Bayhealth Sussex Campus

April 20, 2017

At this year's Bug and Bud Festival, Bayhealth is inviting community members to sign a steel beam that will be lifted into place on the new Bayhealth Hospital, Sussex Campus at a "topping off" ceremony in May. The 160 pound, 13 foot long steel beam will be available to sign at the festival from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 29 in Milford.

The topping off ceremony honors a construction industry tradition established more than 1,000 years ago. It marks the symbolic end of the structural phase of construction.

After Bug and Bud Festival, the beam will be placed near the front entrance of Bayhealth Milford Memorial. This will give patients, visitors, physicians and hospital staff another opportunity to sign their names. A separate beam will be on display on the Sussex Campus for construction workers to sign.

The $300 million hospital and outpatient center will replace Bayhealth Milford Memorial, currently located on Clarke Avenue. The new Bayhealth Hospital, Sussex Campus is expected to open in 2019.
