Respiratory Therapists Win Teaching Award

July 26, 2017

Two Bayhealth Hospital, Kent Campus respiratory care therapists were recently honored for the work they do to prepare current students for future careers in healthcare. Elizabeth Bailey, RRT, and Jenna Jester, RRT, are this year’s Preceptor of the Year award winners for the Respiratory Care Program held through Delaware Tech and Christiana Care Services.

Bailey and Jester tied for the award, which was chosen by students in the program after completing rotations at four different healthcare facilities, including Bayhealth. The clinical rotation lasted a year and provided students an opportunity to practice their skills and work side-by-side with respiratory care therapists in the field. Jester also won the award last year.

“I’ve been in their shoes before and understand how overwhelming being a student can be. Therefore, it’s always my goal to ease their anxiety and help them enjoy the experience. Along the way I’m able to share tips and tricks I’ve learned,” Jester said.

Bailey echoed Jester’s sentiments. With almost four years under her belt as a respiratory therapist, she’s more than happy to teach and interact with the students. “They’re the future of healthcare. Mentoring them is our way of paying it forward for the individuals who helped us,” Bailey said.

Respiratory therapists are experts in airway management and work with patients in providing quality respiratory care. Visit Bayhealth.org/Respiratory-Care for more information on Respiratory Care services at Bayhealth.
