Saints Peter and Paul 2016 Record Breaking Gala

Easton, MD – Saints Peter and Paul School hosted the 23rd Sabres Celebration on April 16, 2016, at the Saints Peter and Paul Gymnasium.. The Gala celebration is the largest fundraiser for the school with the proceeds providing funds to support academics, student life, athletic and spiritual programs and supplies essential for the mind, body and spiritual experience for all students.

This year’s record breaking Gala, chaired by Peggy Wilson, Cheryl Palumbo and Mirta Bradner, was themed, Portraits of Excellence, honoring the school's culture and accomplishments as we celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the school, and raised over $475,000! The evening began with a cocktail reception with exquisite decorations, guest teacher/celebrity bartenders raising tips, a silent and live auction with over 250 donated packages, and a Mustang Sally Car Raffle, with a 2016 Mustang donated by Dave and Peggy Wilson of the Preston Automotive Group. The car raffle also set a new record, raising over $85,000 in ticket sales. The Chesapeake Culinary Center prepared entrée stations, Mark Potter and Matt Spence were the evening’s auctioneers, and live music was provided by Mike Hines and the Look.

Saints Peter and Paul School proudly recognized Tom and Maria Mitchell as this year’s Sabres Celebration Honor Family. Since enrolling their children Dorian and Teresa in SSPP, the Mitchell's have generously given of their time and talents and have been instrumental in strengthening the foundation of the school community. “The Mitchell family is honored by this recognition. We made a commitment 20 years ago to move to Talbot County, enroll our children in SSPP and join the Parish. It was the right decision, and today we wholeheartedly support the vision of Father Nash,”said Tom Mitchell.

Following the honoring of the Mitchell Family, Father Nash led the auction for the Fund A Need project for this year. The special Fund A Need goal was to raise $55,000 for a 14 passenger bus. However, with the tremendous generosity the goal was surpassed making the total $103,000; enough for two buses. The buses will serve many purposes including uses by various school clubs, shuttling students to athletic events, field trips and bringing students to school from areas where there is the most need.

Dr. Dave Rath would like to add logos to the bus to provide awareness of SSPP to the community. “Not only would a bus with Saints Peter and Paul School logos bring more attention to our school but having our own bus would sharply reduce outside contracts for transportation and allow more flexibility in providing transportation for our school,”said Dr. Rath.

“We are so grateful to our school community for the support of our biggest fundraiser of the year. We are thankful that we can provide our students the foundation of a Catholic education in Mind, Body and Spirit.” Father Nash said.
