Sussex County Return Day 2016

- Private group -
November 7, 2016

Republican, Democrat, or Independent, there’s only one party that matters this political season – it’s the one on The Circle in Georgetown that kicks off Sussex County’s Return Day celebration. Sussex County’s unique, after-election event promises plenty of music, games, food, and more as winners and losers will come together with the community on Thursday, Nov. 10, to celebrate the end to the 2016 campaign season. We will be onsite with some of our adoptable pets. Stop by and join us for the celebration!

Although the date of the first RETURN DAY in Georgetown is uncertain, it could have been as early as 1792. The State Law in 1791 removing the County seat from Lewes along the Coast to the a more geographically centered site, later named Georgetown, required all votes to be cast in the new County Seat on election day. The same voters would “return” two days later to hear the results – hence the name RETURN DAY.
