West Wicomico Heritage Day is coming up this weekend, offering fun activities for the whole family.

The Wicomico Recreation, Parks & Tourism event, set for Sept. 23, features the 22nd annual West Wicomico Heritage Bike Tour, the Historians Scavenger Hunt and other activities at Pemberton Historical Park.

Participants in the bike tour, which takes off from Pemberton Historical Park, can choose from 32-, 50-, and 62-mile routes that wind through western Wicomico County. The event lasts from 7 a.m.-2:30 p.m., with show and go from 7-8:30 a.m.

Registration is open now. Registration fees are $40 for adults, $25 for children ages 8-18 and free for children 7 and under (no shirt included).

Participants must wear helmets, and they will each receive a map and cue sheet. Rest areas will also be available, along with SAG, or Support and Gear, service.

For $5 per group of up to five, people can participate in the following activities: the Historians Scavenger Hunt, colonial games and crafts, and Pemberton Hall tours.

During the Historians Scavenger Hunt, teams will explore historical sites in Pemberton Historical Park, completing tasks and challenges. On-site registration begins at 10 a.m., and the scavenger hunt begins at 11 a.m.

Colonial games and crafts and Pemberton Hall tours run from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. There will also be free History Trail guided tours at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

The day is presented in partnership with the Whitehaven Heritage Association and the Pemberton Hall Foundation. Proceeds go directly toward historical preservation of Pemberton Historical Park and the Whitehaven Schoolhouse as well as numerous environmental education programs offered to Wicomico County children and families.

Registration for the bike tour is available at the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center Box Office (Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-6 p.m.) and online at www.PembertonPark.org. Contact Allen Swiger at 410-548-4900, ext. 108, or email aswiger@wicomicocounty.org.
