‘A Filmmaker's View of Arab-Jewish Relations’ is topic March 24

March 20, 2017

The Rehoboth Beach Film Society, in partnership with the Seaside Jewish Community, is presenting a special event at the Lewes library that will be held during the Rehoboth Beach Jewish Film Festival. A Breakfast Conversation with Jason Williams will take place from 10 to 11:30 a.m., Friday, March 24. The topic will be Through the Lens: A Filmmaker's View of Arab-Jewish Relations - In History and Today. When it comes to matters of culture and faith, Jews and Arabs both privilege the role of history. Today, their shared reverence for the past is, perhaps, most famously evidenced in the City of Jerusalem. While the ongoing conflict over this sacred and political space has come to exemplify contemporary Arab-Jewish relations, Jerusalem is also where these two communities came to enjoy a lengthy coexistence marked by mutual respect, elements of which endure to this day.

In his brief talk, Williams will use archaeology, broadly defined, to explore some of the lesser-known points of intersection between Arab and Jewish history that he has explored during three decades of documentary filmmaking in the region. He is the filmmaker and producer of "Besa, The Promise." He is the president and co-founder of JWM Productions LLC. His multiple Emmy Award-winning work has been seen on numerous broadcast, cable and satellite outlets around the world, including the History Channel, Discovery Channel, National Geographic, TLC, BBC, CBS, UK Channel 4, CNN, NBC, PBS and TBS, to name a few. Working on such diverse subjects as natural history, anthropology, current affairs, ancient history and marine technology, Williams' productions have taken him to 30 different countries spanning six continents. He is a British citizen who resides permanently in the United States; he has graduated from Sussex University and New York University.
