‘Christmas Is the Best Time of the Year’ to open at Calvary Church in Dover Dec. 7

November 23, 2016

The Creative Arts Ministry of Calvary Church in Dover invites audiences to enjoy an original modern musical, "Christmas Is the Best Time of the Year," with performances at 7 p.m. Friday to Monday, Dec. 7 to 10, plus performances at 3 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 10, and 10:30 a.m., Sunday, Dec. 11. Shows are free and open to the public in the church's state-of-the-art sanctuary theater on the corner of Route 10 and South State Street Extended in Dover.

Team-directed by Dee Gleason, Yasmin and Josh Walton, and Terence Savagel, "Christmas Is the Best Time of the Year" is an original show created by Calvary's Creative Arts team.

"We're taking a journey that is set in today's time," said Co-executive Producer Yasmin Walton. "Our team wanted to capture the excitement, wonder and expectation of the season through this story of a modern-day Scrooge who rediscovers the true meaning of Christmas."

The story focuses on a TV news reporter, Katie O'Connor (Caitlyn DeHoff), a bah-humbug girl who has lost her Christmas spirit. Ironically, her boss Chuck (Kevin Staniszewski) assigns her a Christmas broadcast exclusive that lands her in the midst of some highly festive characters. As she interviews the merry group, they help Katie reconnect with what she has lost – and learn why Christmas really is the best time of the year. The 21-member cast also features Derrick Terrell as Dustin Huffmon.

Music includes both classic Christmas songs and modern music, with 50 choir members and dancers helping tell the story through music and movement. Admission is free and open to all, with no reserved seating. Doors open one hour before performances, but seats fill up quickly, so audience members are encouraged to arrive early. Nursery available.
