‘Girl With A Pearl Earring’ art film to be discussed March 27

March 22, 2017

The Rehoboth Beach Film Society presents a new, three-part Journeys in Art History film series. The focus is to introduce the works of history's greatest painters and provide opportunities to view blockbuster art exhibitions from galleries worldwide. The series continues with the intriguing Exhibition on Screen film, “Girl With A Pearl Earring,” at 2 p.m., Monday, March 27, at the Cinema Art Theater. Doors open at 1:30 pm.

“Girl With A Pearl Earring” by Johannes Vermeer is one of the most enduring paintings in the history of art. Its most recent world tour garnered huge lines for the briefest glimpse of its majestic beauty. Yet the painting itself is cloaked in mystery. This gorgeous film seeks to answer the many questions associated with this extraordinary piece. Who was this girl? Why and how was she painted? And why is this painting so revered?

A post-film discussion will be led by Jane Casazza, a painter and printmaker who also volunteers as docent emeritus at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. She has served as education outreach coordinator for the Rehoboth Art League and as board member for the Rehoboth Beach Film Society. Casazza is a retired art teacher who taught in the Fairfax County Schools.

Admission is $6 per person. For more information or to purchase tickets, go to www.rehobothfilm.com or call 302-645-9095.
