‘Tarzan: The Stage Musical’ set at Milford High March 2-4

February 24, 2017

The Milford High School Drama Club will present “Tarzan: The Stage Musical” at 7 p.m., Thursday-Saturday, March 2-4, with a matinee at 1 p.m., Saturday. “Tarzan” is the tale of a man raised by gorillas who is both and yet neither - he doesn't fully belong in the world of humans or the world of animals. The musical is based on the 1999 Disney film and is set to an award-winning pop music score by Phil Collins. Filled with energetic animals and electrifying music, this is a heartwarming story of identity, the meaning of family and unconditional love that is sure to please the whole family.

Director Carissa Meiklejohn says, "The show has posed interesting challenges for us. The majority of the cast are playing gorillas, not humans. So we have had to spend a lot of time on mannerisms and movement unlike any show we've done before. It has been exciting to watch the cast create animal characters who feel very human emotions."

This production has provided an opportunity for the graduating seniors to mentor and pass on traditions to the next group of young performers, as the cast includes nine seniors and six middle school students. Student performers from Milford High School and Milford Central Academy include Ashby Amory, Tobias Biro, Amire Collins, Valeria Coverdale, Jessica Creigh, Emma Dehel, Ethan Dehel, Millisen Dill, William Dorey, Lauren Edwards, Jacob Elliot, Mark Hollingsworth, Rebecca Hutchinson, Zoe Johnson, Mystery Parsons-Villa, Ethan Pheasant, Kieran Pheasant, Dylan Phillips, Christopher Proetzel, Jennifer Rust, Madison Stalvey, Haley Thompson, Paige Thompson, Barbara Walker and Gabriel White.

All performances will be held in the school auditorium. Tickets will be available at the door and are $5 for students age 18 or younger, $6 for seniors 60 or older, and $8 for all others. A $1 discount will be given to Saturday night attendees who bring a ticket stub from the Lions Club spaghetti dinner set 4-7 p.m., Saturday, March 4, in the Milford High School cafeteria.
