10 straight!!

Cape Sports

On Tuesday night, the Cape Henlopen girls lacrosse team won their 10th straight Delaware high school state championship by the score of 15-5 over St. Marks. No other team in the history of Delaware high school sports has accomplished that incredible feat.

The only high school to have come anywhere close to that is the Salesianum soccer program. They have won eight consecutive championships. One of the things that makes the 10 straight so impressive is the fact that Cape is a public school. They can't actively recruit out of state like the private Delaware high schools can. The Cape girls lacrosse program will remain strong and I don't expect that domination to end anytime soon.

The entire Cape spring sports program has been very impressive this year. The Cape boys lacrosse team finished in the semi-final round in a strong game against Sallies. The Cape girls soccer team made it to the state tournament quarterfinals. There needs to be additional congratulations shouted out to the boys Cape baseball team for advancing to the state championship semifinals. They get to play this Friday at the Wilmington Blue Rocks stadium. Go Cape!

Basketball

The NBA finals start today. For the first time in the history of the four major American sports, the same two teams will play for the championship for the fourth straight time. The defending champions, the Golden State Warriors, are playing the Cleveland Cavaliers. Golden State is a big favorite to win the title because they have a virtual All-Star team with Kevin Durant, Steph Curry, and Klay Thompson.

If Cleveland somehow wins the championship, that would prove to me that LeBron James is the best player in basketball history. Michael Jordan and LeBron James are currently the top two players. If LeBron and his team can pull off this championship, that will make LeBron #1 for me.

Baseball

Much to my disappointment but of no surprise, the Philadelphia Phillies have fallen to third place in the Eastern division. They are now behind the Washington Nationals and the Atlanta Braves. I think the Nationals are going to pull away from everybody and win the division easily. Regardless, I hope the Phillies don't continue this losing streak.

See you on the sidelines!
