1812 Park lot closed during BPW project

October 17, 2017

The parking lot at 1812 Park in Lewes is closed as the Board of Public Works and Sussex County begin to work on a major project to upgrade sewer infrastructure along Gills Neck Road, Savannah Road and Front Street.

BPW General Manager Darrin Gordon said crews from George & Lynch will begin digging a hole about 20 feet deep this week. They will then jack and bore from the parking lot under Savannah Road to the BPW’s lift station on the other side, near the new bicycle lot. This phase of a larger project is expected to last six weeks; however, Gordon said, the timeline could be impacted by weather or one of many other unforeseen hurdles.

The larger overall project is expected to last the entire off-season before being paused for summer 2018. It will resume in fall 2018 and should be completed by spring 2019.

The drawbridge is expected to be closed to vehicular traffic in January, as crews must dig into the intersection at Savannah Road, Gills Neck Road and Front Street. That phase of the project is out to bid now. For more information, call BPW offices at 302-645-6228.
