38th District Democrats hear campaigning advice

March 27, 2017

The 36th Representative District Democratic Committee met March 20 at Arena's in Milford.  Chairperson Paul Hayes introduced the guest speaker, Alanna Mozeik, campaign aid to Gov. John Carney. Mozeik's dealt with the intricacies of running for political office. She pointed out that family involvement in making this decision to run was of utmost importance and that there needed to be a 100 percent commitment for those closest to the candidate. Money is always an issue; before asking others for money, one must self-invest, which could mean taking out a loan. When considering running for public office, the individual should interact with others who successfully and unsuccessfully ran past campaigns. She stressed that of key importance to those running for office was to know their values, and what they would be willing to lose over rather than be unfaithful to their beliefs. Of most importance was to be kind.

Following the speaker's talk, guests were introduced: Anne Allen, recording secretary for the 38th RD, announced candidate for second vice chair of Sussex County Democratic Committee, John and Loretta Benson, Sherry and Raymond White, James Hazzard and Thomas Drummond were introduced and announce they were seeking membership in the 36th RD. Michael McKain of Milford also was recognized and commended for his efforts in education of Delaware's youth. Also in attendance were Sussex County Chairperson Jane Hovington and Cynthia Gooch-Copley, chair of the Sussex County Democratic Committee. Spring Dinner is to be held Saturday, April 22, at Baywood Greens. Tickets are $60 and that the guest speaker will be newly elected U.S. Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester.

Doors will open at 6 p.m., and voting will occur at 7 p.m. All recognized district and club members of Sussex County are eligible to vote for those running for office.
