AAUW awards prizes for Sussex County Science Fair projects

The Coastal/Georgetown branch of the American Association of University Women presented awards to students in the 25th annual Sussex County Science Fair, which was held March 6 at Delaware Technical Community College. Participants were from middle and high schools in Sussex County. A total of $450 in prizes was awarded this year to the following students for their projects:

Three Sussex Academy eighth-graders earned $100 prizes. Emma Kuska won for The Effect of Light Intensity on Color Recognition in the Peripheral Field of Vision (Medical/Health field). Tess DeBastiani won for The Effect of Gender on Visual Processing (Behavioral/Social). Ensar Arslan won for The Robotic Glove Project (Engineering).

Sussex Academy seventh-grader Gabriella Orsini won a $50 prize for The Effect of Caffeine on Daphnia (Medical/Health). Two Beacon Middle School eighth-graders also won $50 prizes. Melanie Fritchman won for Simply Green (Environmental) and Lee Hoffman won for Plastic Milk (Chemistry).

This AAUW chapter memorializes and honors charter member and past president Louise Eiremann Dale, who was a home economics teacher in the Indian River School District for many years. Chapter judges were Sandy Dodson, chairperson; Dru Mogge; Judy Britz; Carol Clancy; Victoria Bertolet; Beth White; and Sue Dyer.
