Ada Mae Warrington, extraordinary golfer

Ada Mae Warrington, 98, of Seaford, and formerly of Georgetown, passed away peacefully in her sleep at the Manor House Friday, July 15, 2016.

Born on the family farm in Georgetown Aug. 17, 1917, Ada Mae was the daughter of Harvey A. and Lottie M. Warrington. She was a 1935 graduate of Georgetown High School, and earned a bachelor’s degree from Sergeant College in Boston, Mass., and a master’s degree in education from Columbia University in New York City. Ada Mae taught physical education and coached girls’ sports at Georgetown High School during the 1940s. She later became a supervisor of physical education for the Prince George’s County School District in Maryland. She was a charter member of the Indian River Yacht Club and a charter member of Sussex Pines Country Club. An avid enthusiast for girls’ and ladies’ sports, Ada Mae was an extraordinary golfer. She competed in local and regional golf tournaments on teams representing Sussex Pines for many years.

Miss Warrington never married. She is survived by her cousin, Myra Warrington Leighty and husband Harvey; grandcousin Yvonne B. Krause; and great-grandcousins, Dale Krause and Carrie Krause. In addition, she is survived by her cousins, Roland Buckingham and Leslie Buckingham; and grandcousins, Chelsea Buckingham and Paynter Buckingham.

A Memorial Service will be held at 3 p.m., Wednesday, July 27, at the Methodist Manor House, 1001 Middleford Road, Seaford. Burial will be private.
