After nearly 30 years, Lamps and Shades to close doors

Route 24 specialty shop to end its long run Aug. 30
August 3, 2017

After nearly 30 years of sales in the Cape Region, a popular lamp and shade store is closing its doors. Lamps and Shades will permanently close Aug. 30.

Robin May has been operating the store, started by her uncle Joe Crowley in 1990, for many years. May has created custom lamps throughout her time at the shop, as did her uncle. In addition, the specialty shop carries a wide range of lamp bases, lamp shades, custom window treatments, artwork and Hadley pottery.

Several of May’s high-quality suppliers have closed in the past few years, and it has been difficult to find equivalent products to take their places, she said.

“I want people to be aware the store is closing so they have time to come in and buy lamps they've admired or shades they need,” May said.

If inventory runs out before Aug. 30, the store will close. After inventory is gone, May plans to sell the store fixtures, such as shelving.

Custom window treatments will still be available through May's next business venture, Window Works.

“We'd like to thank the community for being great customers for so many years,” said May, “They have been faithful and are friends as well as customers.”

Lamps and Shades is located on Route 24 near Beacon Middle School. Store hours are: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 10:00 a.m–5:00 p.m.  The store is closed Saturday, Sunday and Wednesday.  Check the website for updates: http://lampsandshadesde.com.
