Albert H. Steele Sr., 94, of Dagsboro, passed away Saturday, July 22, 2017, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes.

Albert was born Sept. 28, 1922, in Frankford. Albert served his country during World War II with the U.S. Army in Germany and Japan. He was awarded the American Theatre Ribbon, European Middle Eastern Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Ribbon and a Victory Medal. He retired as a bulk-feed truck driver for Murray's Feed Service (Cargill) of Frankford, and prior to that he worked for Curtis W. Steen Milling in Dagsboro.

He was a life member of Mason-Dixon VFW Post #7234, past member of the American Legion, Moose and Eagles, where he served several positions. Albert was always available to help or to fix anything. He was constantly building, fixing or tinkering on something and was a jack-of-all-trades. He spent many years working his Saturdays in the summer at the VFW Chicken Shack in Bethany Beach, and loved working there with his friends from the VFW. His family gave him the nickname of "Sanford and Sons" because he loved his yard sales and visiting the Christian Storehouse to find a bargain. He was loved by all and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Clara Steele Hammond; his three half-sisters, Hedy Wilkinson, Ruth Shockley and Dorothy Lynch; two half-brothers, William Hammond Jr. and Asher Hammond; and his great-grandchild, George Jenkins Jr.
Albert is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Edna Mae (Townsend) Steele; his two daughters, Sharon S. Joseph and her husband Clifford of Harbeson, and Diane Jenkins and her husband, Robert of Georgetown; two sons, Albert H. Steele Jr. and his friend Tina Lofland of Georgetown, and Brian K. Steele and his fiancé, Christine Waltz of Milford; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Harry Townsend Jr. and his wife Nora; sister-in-law, Annette Hammond and brother-in-law, John Wilkinson. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, his Hardee's coffee buddies and his buddy, Harvey Melson.

A visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Thursday, July 27, at the Frankford Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 43 Thatcher St., Frankford, where the funeral service will begin at 12:30 p.m. Interment with military honors will follow at the Delaware

Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro.
