February 5, 2018

Alvin "Jackie" Frederick Gaulke Jr., 76, of Lincoln and Selbyville, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2018, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes. He was born Jan. 21, 1942, in Wilmington, son of the late Alvin Fredrick Sr. and Elda G. (Hills) Gaulke.

Alvin graduated from the Pennsylvania School for the Deaf in Philadelphia, Pa., class of 1960, earning a vocational certificate in barbering. He worked as a barber in Pennsylvania for many years. Alvin moved to Lincoln in 1979 with his wife, Connie, and daughter Beverly. A year later, his son Frank joined the family.

Alvin worked various jobs in Delaware: Scott Paper, ILC Dover & Frederica, where he worked on masks for spacesuits used by NASA, VA Homes, North American Homes, Chimes at Dover Air Force Base, and as a parts delivery driver for Manlove in Milford.

He was a family man and a people person, who was always ready with a smile and a pleasant disposition. Alvin enjoyed life and having a good time. He was very much a jokester, and loved to make people smile and laugh. He enjoyed fishing, boating, traveling, driving, going to casinos and great food. Alvin was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, son and friend. He will be genuinely missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, Alvin was preceded in death by his brother, Wayne Bernard Gaulke. He is survived by his daughter, Beverly D. King and her fiance Michael Langton of Selbyville; his son Frank F. Gaulke of Selbyville; his three granddaughters: Morgan A. King, Kyleigh M. Gaulke and Samantha E. Gaulke; and his former wife and dear friend, Connie D. Justice.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 7, at 11 a.m., at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, where friends may call beginning at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Henlopen Memorial Park.

Special thanks to Connie, Beebe Healthcare, Beebe Home Healthcare, all of Alvin's doctors and nurses, Johns Hopkins Hospital, and Beth R., who along with Beverly and Frank took care of Alvin so he could remain in his home when he needed more care.
