American Brass Quintet to open Coastal Concerts season Oct. 15

September 28, 2016

The stellar American Brass Quintet will kick off Coastal Concerts' 2016-17 season at 7 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 15, with a performance at the newly renovated Bethel United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall in Lewes.

The quintet is composed of Kevin Cobb, trumpet; Louis Hanzlik, trumpet; Eric Reed, horn, the newest member of the group; Michael Powell, trombone, the longest-tenured member, having joined the group in 1983; and John D. Rojak, bass trombone. Internationally recognized as one of the premier chamber music ensembles of its time, the quintet is celebrated for its peerless leadership in the brass world. Committed to the development of brass chamber music through higher education, American Brass Quintet has served as Ensemble-in-Residence at Juilliard since 1987 and the Aspen Music Festival since 1970.

The program will feature compositions by Joan Tower, Osvaldo Lacerda, Kenneth Fuchs, Thomas Stoltzer and David Sampson, as well as "Three Venetian Canzoni," edited by Raymond Mase, a former quintet member who holds the honor of being the ensemble's longest-serving member, 40 years, before his retirement from the group in 2013.

The Lewes concert will be the first to take place at Bethel Fellowship Hall, 4th and Market streets in Lewes, since completion of a major renovation. The venue is now fully accessible, including much-improved elevator service directly from street level to the auditorium. Patrons will enter via the 4th Street door to an enlarged lobby and reception area.

Tickets are $30. (Premium seating for $35 is all sold out for the subscription season.) Ages 10-18, as well as one adult per youth, are admitted free with advance reservations. Admission for $10 is available to students 19 years and older with a valid school ID, as well as to active-duty and retired career military.
