Anita Paige Briddell, family matriarch

Anita Paige Briddell, known to many as "Bitsy” or “Mom-Bitsy," 83, of Dagsboro, went home to be with the Lord Monday, Jan. 9, 2017, at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital surrounded by her loved ones.

Anita was born in Berlin, Md., July 18, 1933, to the late Otha Henry and Clara Briddell. She received her education in Berlin at a small local school and worshiped at St. Paul's United Methodist Church. During her years of maturity, she resided in Showell, Md., Bishop, Md., Selbyville, Williamsville, Connecticut, Frankford, and Dagsboro wherein she touched the lives of many. Anita was dedicated to her employment obligations to Mountaire Poultry for 25 years and The Santa Maria Hotel for 25 years. She retired from her duties in 2003 wherein she stayed home and raised her grandchildren as well as mothering many children in the neighborhood. She was a faithful member of Zoar United Methodist Church for many years, and found nothing more pleasurable that attending Sunday service and fellowshipping with the saints.
Anita was a loving, nurturing, and selfless person who dedicated her life to raising her children. She was the woman who led them, who kept them close, and who fabricated the foundation upon which her family was built. She was certainly the matriarch of her home and the pillar of the Lazy Lagoon neighborhood. She was loved by many.
She was preceded in death by her father Otha Henry; mother, Clara Briddell; daughter, Fayetta Briddell; grandson, Jimaine Williams; and granddaughter, Mahasin Williams.
Anita leaves loving memories with her 12 children: Norman Briddell (Ella), Berlin, Jeffery Briddell (Bridget) Atlanta, Ga., Rodney Briddell (Brenda), Millsboro, Gregory Briddell (Janella), Virginia Beach, Va., Darlene Collins (Carlus) Frankford, Sandra Hagans (fiancée' Christian) Georgetown, Pamela Hagans, Dagsboro, Marvin Hagans (Ayanna) Laurel, Debra Hagans (Kevin Brittingham) Manassas, Va., Donnell Briddell (Vanessa) Millsboro, Clara Trotter (Larry),Delmar, and Cornelius Briddell, Frankford; sister Agnes Turner (Jessie) Berlin; two aunts; Natalie Mumford (James) Bishopville, and Rachael Briddell, Salisbury, Md.; stepdaughters Hannah Young, Bayonne, N.J., and Betty Myers (Tony) Jersey City, N.J.; one spiritual son, Bishop Rolland Mifflin, Georgetown; 50 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; three nieces and two nephews.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, Jan. 16, at Calvary Pentecostal Church, 13325 North Worcester Highway, Bishopville. Family and friends may call one hour prior, from noon to 1 p.m., for the public viewing. Interment will immediately follow the service at Zoar Golden Acres, Bishopville.
