Another 5K at Paradise Grill draws 200 runners and walkers

Proceeds go to Tunnell Cancer Center
October 8, 2017

The Paradise Grill 5K to benefit the Tunnell Cancer Center held Sept. 30 at high noon attracted 222 runners, many who don’t run all that much, but who were there to support the cause of Crush Cancer and running in memory of a lost loved one or to show support for a friend inside the struggle.

Paradise Grill is down to the right off Long Neck Road heading toward Massey’s Landing. The expansive community known as Pot-Nets is another world, as is Paradise Grill with tropical colors and vegetation. You can arrived by boat, car or golf cart.

One hundred runners/joggers and fast walkers circled the two-options racecourse in 14 minutes per mile pace or slower. The event was family-based and more a social than a race. But there were still fast people at the front of the race.

Noah Wood, 34, from Prince Frederick, Md., was the overall winner in 18:56. El Jones, 57, from Wilmington was the first female in 21:54.

Mike Donnelly, 47, won the male masters race in 19:10. Kathy Kay won the female masters title in 23:58.

A handful of runners raced in the Believe in Tomorrow 5K in Bethany Beach at 8:30 a.m (a Races2Run event) before driving to Long Neck for the Paradise Grill 5K, which began at noon.
