Anytime Fitness set to open at Five Points

24-hour gym to focus on personal goals
February 16, 2017

Members of the new Anytime Fitness, set to open later this month in the Villages of Five Points, won’t be limited to a pre-determined class schedule. The new gym’s on-demand virtual classes allow members to take classes whenever it suits them.

With more than 500 virtual classes to choose from, the on-demand option is a great supplement for the gym’s traditional instructor-led classes, said Sharon Padbury, who co-owns Anytime Fitness with Jackie Sullivan.

“This is pretty unique,” she said. “You can select [a class] and a screen lowers from the ceiling. Then you can grab some friends who are here and join in the class.”

Virtual classes share the same space as instructor-led classes within Anytime Fitness’ 4,500-square-foot facility on Village Main Boulevard, behind the Greene Turtle.

Construction has been underway since October, and the gym should be ready to open by the end of February.

As for the experience, Padbury said, Anytime Fitness focuses on achieving each member’s personal fitness goals.

“We try to have a warm and welcoming environment,” said Padbury, who previously operated a medically supervised fitness facility.

Within the gym, members will find traditional fitness equipment, including treadmills, stationary bikes, arc trainers, free weights and circuit trainers. But what enhances the experience, particularly for the cardio equipment, she said, is the technological components.

“The consoles allow for streaming – Hulu and Netflix – so folks can entertain themselves and catch up on their shows,” Padbury said. “They also feature virtual paths, like running paths, hiking paths or biking paths.”

When using one of the path options, she said, the cardio equipment is designed to change the difficulty when a path appears to be going up hills or mountains.

Centrally located within the gym is the functional training area. In the squishy turfed space, Padbury said, personal trainers will work with members to exercise muscles that are used on a daily basis.

“Here we can help folks with balance and flexibility,” she said. “We can lengthen the muscles that need to be lengthened, strengthen the muscles that need to be strengthened.”

In addition, the gym also features private showers and a water-based massage bed. Users remain clothed while using the hydro bed and can control the water pressure, while also programming it to focus on a specific area of the body.

Anytime Fitness is not associated with Any1 Fitness, formerly Club Fitness, behind Walmart between Lewes and Rehoboth. Anytime Fitness is a franchise with more than 3,500 locations worldwide. A member’s key fob gives access to any Anytime Fitness location around the world.

The gym is currently offering presale memberships. For more information, call 302-212-6151, go to anytimefitness.com or facebook.com/AnytimeFitnessLewes
