Architectural Gems of Milton walking tours set monthly starting May 4

April 27, 2016

Milton enjoys a rich heritage of historic homes and buildings, with 198 structures listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Milton Historical Society’s Architectural Gems of Milton Walking Tours offer a lively overview of Milton’s history and a chance to view and learn about many of the architectural styles preserved in the homes, button sheds, barns and outbuildings in the historic area.

Learning about the stylistic differences unlocks insight into the cultural and artistic traditions that have influenced and shaped this charming town. This stroll through Milton is a fascinating way to appreciate its long history and the people who built homes here and made it their hometown.

The walking tours are scheduled to take place at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 4, and Saturdays, June 18, July 16, Aug. 13 and Sept. 17, weather permitting, beginning at the Milton Historical Society Museum at 210 Union St. in downtown Milton. Free parking is available in the open space next to the museum along Magnolia Street. Walkers are advised to wear sturdy shoes and bring a hat and sunscreen.

The cost is $5 cash for nonmembers and free for Milton Historical Society members. Reservations are required. To reserve a space, call 302-684-1010 or email visit@historicmilton.org.

After the tour, attendees may visit the Milton Historical Society Museum with its interesting displays and collection of artifacts that tell about the history of Milton and the Broadkill Hundred. Admission is free. The museum is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday. For more information, contact the museum at 302-684-1010 or email visit@historicmilton.org.
