The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has been busy the past two weeks dredging out Roosevelt Inlet in Lewes. The 156-foot-by-35-foot, split-hull Murden was designed by the Army Corps Marine Design Center in Philadelphia and is docked in Wilmington, N.C. With a 5-foot draft, it works in shallow inlets, rivers and marinas on the Atlantic and Gulf coasts. The ship has been collecting sand from the inlet bottom – 512 cubic yards at a time – and depositing it along the beach front in Delaware Bay.
