Artists sought for WWII re-enactor sketch contest April 28 at Fort Miles
The Fort Miles Historical Association, in partnership with Delaware State Parks, will host a sketching event of WW II re-enactors as a part of the Delaware Goes to War event Saturday, April 28, at Cape Henlopen State Park. The annual event draws thousands of visitors each year, and features WWII-era live music performances, vintage military vehicles and over 100 uniformed re-enactors.
Special presentations and programs at the Fort Miles Museum are featured throughout the day. Featured speakers this year include Tim Nosal of the American Battle Monuments Commission, and Billie Meeks of the American War Orphans Network.
Food and beverages will be available for sale at the recently restored WWII mess hall. Re-enactors from the 261st Coastal Artillery and other units will be available for formal sketching from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Additional informal sketching will be available throughout the day until 4 p.m.
A fee of $25 gains artists admission to the sketching event and an option to enter one to five sketches relating to the open house event or Fort Miles Museum displays. The entry fee includes a tour of Battery 519 at Fort Miles for the artist and one guest. This event will take place rain or shine.
Artists can select from one of three contest categories, consisting of Professional, Amateur and Student Artists. Noted Lewes artist Paul Rendel will select all final entries and act as the judge. Prizes will be awarded in each category.
