Athletes of the Week Aug. 4

August 4, 2017
Jordyn DiFava

Jordyn went yard in the second inning against the East team from New York to give the Delaware District 3 All-Stars the spark needed to pace her team to a 4-3 victory in the opening game of the Senior Softball World Series. A sure-handed fielder at second, she has made every chance, whether it be a pop-up out of bounds or a line drive over her head. She snagged a hot liner off a Latin America bat to stop a rally in the 3-1 victory over Puerto Rico. "Jordyn is one of the most enthusiastic players I have ever met," said Delaware manager Craig Kormanik. "She is always trying to better herself in any way and will do anything to help the team." A team MVP at Delmarva Christian, she was chosen all-conference for the 2017 season. When not playing softball, Jordyn leads student community service groups for the Royals.

Ryleigh Elliott

A speedy center fielder for the Delaware District 3 All-Stars, Rye made a diving catch worthy of a SportsCenter highlight film against the Southwest team in the second game of pool play at the Senior Softball World Series. A natural southpaw leading off from the left side, she puts the ball in play via the slap hit. "Rye is one of those players you can count on for just about anything," said Delaware manager Craig Kormanik. "If you need a clutch hit, you got it; a diving catch, you got it." She has an .844 on-base plus slugging percentage during the first three games. A three-sport athlete at Cape, she plays forward on the field hockey squad, guard for the Vikings basketball team and outfield for the softball squad, where she was a 2017 all-conference pick. She also plays for the Diamond State Swoop travel ball squad.

Kelsey Kormanik

The third part of the Delaware All-Star battery, this rising sophomore at Sussex Tech has been a stellar player behind the plate, catching every game in the World Series despite suffering a knee injury last week. "When behind the plate, Kelsey gives a coach the confidence that his pitcher is in good hands," said manager Craig Kormanik. "She has confidence, athleticism, drive and works like a precision piece of equipment with Taylor Wroten." Making 27 put outs on 27 chances so far, she has a 1.000 fielding percentage for the District 3 champs. An honor roll carpentry major at Tech, Kelsey plays field hockey as well as softball. She also plays for the Diamond State Swoop travel team. When not practicing softball or hockey, Kelsey likes hanging out at the beach with her friends.

Taylor Wroten

A rising junior at Sussex Tech, this District 3 All-Star opened pool play at the Senior Softball World Series with a 3-0 record. She had only given up five runs while striking out 25 batters in the first three games. Not only has she mowed down the opponents from the circle, she has also batted herself to a .750 average, slamming a homer, a triple and four singles while picking up three RBIs. "Taylor by far is the most talented pitcher I've come across as a coach or spectator," said manager Craig Kormanik. "She has a high level of intelligence with pitch decisions as well as a consistent bat." She also has an .800 on-base percentage. An honor roll student with a 4.0 average in the athletic healthcare program at Tech, she aspires to become a physical therapist or athletic trainer after her high school career. In her time away from softball, she participates in the 4-H Club and loves doing community service.
