Attic Treasures to offer gently used goods at bargain prices Sept. 2

Greater Lewes Community Village preparing for annual fundraiser
August 19, 2017

Teams of volunteers from the Greater Lewes Community Village are preparing for the fourth annual Attic Treasures Sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 2, at The Brush Factory on Kings, 830 Kings Highway in Lewes. Two huge storage rooms are now stocked with an array of donated, gently used merchandise. When the sale begins that Saturday of Labor Day weekend, a third room currently used for two pickleball courts will hold a wide range of large furnishings now being housed courtesy of Delaware Beach Storage.

"We already have a quality and quantity of goods that we have not experienced before, including vintage furniture and high-quality art," said Steve Hanzel, chair of the Attic Treasures committee. "Everything is being priced at bargain rates. Our customers in previous years know the price is right."

Items to be sold include many things to complete a home or cottage, including china, glassware, dinner service sets, lamps, quilts, mirrors, outdoor barbecues, rugs, books, games, and beach and garden equipment. Collectibles for sale include a handmade, life-size doll and wooden doll furniture. Among the more exotic goods offered are designer chairs, an antique copper French bed warmer, a large Irish handcrafted tapestry ready for hanging, a door-sized Indonesian hand-painted table top, and a set of new high-end Faberge martini glasses.

Jackie Sullivan, Greater Lewes Community Village executive director, said that Attic Treasures is the major annual fundraising event for the organization, which provides volunteer services to older adults, allowing them to live independent lives at home for as long as possible. She said she is very grateful to Christine and Mark Chura for making the Brush Factory space available for the Attic Treasures sale.

"In addition to raising funds to support our programs and services, the sale is a great way to introduce ourselves to those who have recently moved to the eastern Sussex County area," said Sullivan. Board members and volunteers will be present to share information and answer questions about the Greater Lewes Community Village, a member of the Village to Village network of more than 200 similar independent groups throughout the United States.

Village members pay a yearly fee giving them access to various forms of volunteer assistance, opportunities to participate in educational, fitness and social events, and a list of recommended and approved local vendors. The Village has opportunities for volunteers to help older adults in Rehoboth Beach, Millsboro, Milton and Lewes.

Donations to this year's sale are accepted from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Wednesdays and Saturdays throughout August, at the Brush Factory at 830 Kings Hwy. For more information, call 302-703-2568.
