Baby Boomers: Please silence the phones

March 15, 2018

I moved here in 2003 and since then I have seen the population of this area grow with an influx of baby boomer retirees. I have also seen the growth of the use of smart phones during this period.

Recent surveys and data show that baby boomer retirees, are more addicted to their smart phones than millennials! Unfortunately, many of these baby boomers are so addicted that they don't silence their phones in public places.

I have experienced this rudeness in lectures, presentations, stores, and yes, the movies! Is that text, email or phone call that important to a generation that grew up using snail mail and a house phone with no answering machine to communicate? Unless it is a matter of life or death, I think not.

We are the grownups who should be setting an example to the younger generation on how to be respectful to others, and we are failing miserably.

Please, my fellow baby boomer retirees, out of respect for others attending that movie, lecture, etc., silence your phone!
