Backpack giveaway in Rehoboth, Millsboro

A Rehoboth Beach wireless store is offering more than cellphones to students going back to school.

Verizon, a TCC premium wireless retailer, is giving away backpacks from noon to 3 p.m., Saturday, July 30, at its store at 37156 Rehoboth Ave.

"Every year, TCC employees and communities around the country look forward to the backpack giveaway," said Scott Moorehead, CEO of TCC.

Officials expect to hand out 250 backpacks stuffed with back-to-school supplies including pencils, paper, a pencil box, folders and glue.

Backpacks will be given out, one per child, on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.

In 2015, the National Retail Federation estimated it costs about $97 for school supplies for children in grades K-12.

Also participating in the backpack giveaway is the Verizon store in Millsboro located at 28665 Dupont Blvd. The Millsboro store will have 250 backpacks with supplies to give out from noon to 3 p.m.
