Ballet Theatre of Dover to present ‘Nutcracker’ Dec. 9, 10

December 2, 2017

Dancers from Ballet Theatre of Dover will perform "The Nutcracker" at 2 and 7 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 9; and 4 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 10, in the new state-of-the-art theater at Dover High School. In this version of the holiday favorite, Ana Pavon, 17, will dance the dual roles of Clara and the Sugar Plum Fairy. After the battle scene, Clara meets her Nutcracker Doll who has now been transformed into a handsome Prince, danced by Seva Vsevolod, 19, of the Ukraine. She has broken the spell that kept him in the body of an ugly doll, and the young girl risks her life to save him.

In gratitude and love, he takes her on a journey to his kingdom through the Land of Snow. There, he is greeted by the CandyCanes, different residents of the Gingerbread House (Bonbons, Gumdrops, Ribbon Fairy, Gingerbreads, The Chef), characters from Spain (Chocolate), Arabia (Coffee), China (Chinese), Marzipans and a whole meadow of wildflowers, who celebrate the return of their Prince and the girl who saved him. Other primary roles will be danced by Phoenix Riehl, Renei Friend, Hannah Nagyiski, Alexandra Pelletier, Ryan Smallwood and Daijiah Cummings. Eventually The Prince and Clara dance a beautiful pas de deux together, one of the highlights of the classical ballet repertoire.

At the end, Clara wakes up in her chair in the drawing room. Was it all a dream or a glimpse into her future?

Tickets are $25 for adults, $22 for seniors, $17 for students, and $12 for children 12 and under. For more information or to purchase tickets, call 302-734–9717 or go to dancebtd.com.
