August 27, 2016

The Delaware SPCA and hundreds of pet lovers will take over the Boardwalk to help homeless animals. The Sixth Annual Bark on the Boards is set for 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 1, at Lake Gerar Park in Rehoboth Beach, with the dog walk at noon at the north end of the Boardwalk.

This year's theme is Pups for President and the event will feature a patriotic best costume contest for furry friends, with judging by QVC program host and Bark on the Boards Grand Marshal Carolyn Gracie. A performance by Mid Atlantic Disc Dogs is set at 11 a.m. T-shirts and bandanas are free for all registrants. There will be prizes for individuals raising $50 or more.

Registration is $25 per adult, dogs free, kids 6 to 12 $5. Registration the day of the event is $35.

No dog? No problem. Attendees do not need a dog to enjoy Bark on the Boards.
New this year will be an after-party at 1 p.m. at The Big Chill Surf Cantina on Coastal Highway in Rehoboth, featuring specialty cocktails Mutt-A-Rita and Hair of the Dog.

The Delaware SPCA is an independent, nonprofit organization which receives no state or county funding. It offers animal adoptions, low-cost spay and neuter and wellness services, and relies on donations to make this important work possible.
