BeachWalk impact must be fully examined

December 9, 2016

The Nov. 15 commentary by the president of Save Our Lakes Alliance(3) and the president of the Rehoboth Beach Homeowners' Association highlights the serious environmental concerns associated with the proposed BeachWalk development and outlines measures to protect people and natural resources from possible hazards.

We support their suggestions for evaluating the development's potential impact on the health of Silver Lake and Rehoboth's beaches, and the health, safety, and welfare of nearby residents, particularly the need for an environmental impact assessment. We also agree that the planning commission should withhold any approval of the development until its impact has been fully assessed.
