Beacon boys take second in Capital Classic

February 20, 2018

The Beacon boys fell to Dover Middle School 32-29 in the Texas Roadhouse Division of the Capital Classic at Lake Forest High School Sunday, Feb. 18.

The Vikings started out on fire, outscoring Dover Middle 9-2 in the first period, but couldn’t keep up the pressure as the Senators put up 11 in the second period to take a 15-11 lead into the locker room. After the break the Vikings got back on track, scoring 16, and the fourth quarter started 27-25 in favor of the Vikes. Dover ended the game with a 7-2 run and took the Capital Classic crown.

“I thought the boys played hard,” said Beacon head coach Sean O’Grady. “We had a couple mental lapses that cost us, because usually if we hold a team to 32 points we have a really good chance to win. Unfortunately, we just struggled to make layups and free throws this game.”

Brody Pedersen and Kay’von Allen led the Vikings with nine points each, while Zi’mere Bolden added six. Dane Roberston and Hank D’Ambrogi scored three and two, respectively.

Zi’mere Bolden garnered the Sportmanship Award, and Kay’von Allen picked up All-Tournament honors.
