CELEBRATE EXCELLENT CARE

Beebe celebrates an amazing group of women

July 6, 2017

Beebe Healthcare thanks the Ocean View Presbyterian Church Sewing Circle for their generous donation to the Tunnell Cancer Center. They have made several donations to support Beebe since 1993.

Originally, the organization was called The Ladies Social Sewing Society of Ocean View Presbyterian Church, and both men and women were members. Organized in 1879, the group holds the distinction of being the longest continually active society in Delaware.

David Szumski, gift planning officer for Beebe Medical Foundation, had the pleasure of having lunch with ladies from the Women’s Sewing Circle, as it is presently known. The members were happy to share how Beebe Healthcare has helped each of them and their families over the years.

Some of the comments the ladies shared over lunch were:
“I had excellent physical therapy at Beebe after knee and shoulder surgery.”
“I know ladies and gentlemen who have had wonderful care at the Tunnell Cancer Center.”
“My wife was admitted to Beebe for an emergency appendectomy and received excellent care.”
“We’ve had positive experiences with surgeries and in the Emergency Department at Beebe as well as Tunnell Cancer Center.”

Other comments were made about professional and caring treatment at the Beebe Health Campus on Route 24 where members talked about having 3D mammograms and blood work. “Any encounter, whether emergency room, patient testing, or outpatient surgery, has been met with kindness, efficiency, and competence,” members shared.

The Women’s Circle clearly understands the importance of giving back. For the past few years, they have given $5,000 annually to local, national, and international charities. They have also collected a total of $23,000 in the past three years for an organization called Water4, which provides wells for people in Zambia and The Democratic Republic of the Congo. The wells have helped women who formerly had to walk three miles each way to a water source that was usually contaminated.

These generous donations have been made possible through money earned at their yearly Heavenly Luncheon and Fall Jumble. This year, the Heavenly Luncheon will take place Wednesday and Thursday, July 26 and 27, in conjunction with the Beach and Bay Cottage Tour in Bethany Beach. The tour is organized by the Cottage Tour Committee of the Friends of the South Coastal Library. People from surrounding communities come out and enjoy a delicious luncheon before or after their cottage tour.

The Women’s Circle also sponsors the Fall Jumble which will take place Saturday, Oct. 14. They will be selling glassware, small household items, knickknacks, children’s toys, books, jewelry, and potted plants. Delicious baked goods will also be on sale.
Another event not to be missed is the Christmas Nativity Festival Saturday, Dec. 9. Members of the congregation bring in and showcase their own personal nativities, some of which have been bought in other countries. Light desserts and beverages will be served along with music playing for everyone’s enjoyment.

For more information about these events, go to the Ocean View Presbyterian Church website at http://ovpc.org. The public is invited to come out and support these wonderful projects. The Women’s Circle meets for lunch, business, and Bible study on the second Wednesday of the month at noon. All ladies are welcome!

Beebe is planning to expand more in the south coastal area to accommodate the growing population. The expansion proposal includes a year-round emergency department and a satellite Tunnell Cancer Center with radiation and chemotherapy services. The project is planned on a 20-acre site on Route 17, south of Burbage Road near Millville by the Sea.

The existing Beebe Health Campus - Millville on Route 26  - will remain and continue to provide walk-in care, primary care, physical rehabilitation services, lab express, and diagnostic imaging.

As a community-owned, not-for-profit healthcare system, Beebe continues to depend on the generous support of individuals, corporations, businesses, and private foundations. All gifts, large or small, to Beebe Healthcare, are tax deductible and are channeled through Beebe Medical Foundation. Please consider making a gift today and share your amazing stories with our community.
