October 10, 2017

Frankford Public Library will team up with Beebe Healthcare to present the annual Beebe Health Fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 14, at the Frankford Fire Hall. At the event, community members can experience several health screenings, get flu shots and connect with healthcare providers as well as library staff.

The library serves as an essential resource for many members of the town and greater community. Frankford Library Director Rachel Wackett said, "People often come through the library doors asking where to go to seek care of all kinds, from dentistry to basic healthcare to resources to help combat the opioid epidemic. The Beebe Health Fair is a way that we can help connect community members with providers and also get them some of the essential access they might be lacking."

Participation in the health fair is part of the mission of increasing the community's health and wellness literacy, which Wackett sees as an extension of the library's community duty.

Many organizations will be on site that day including multiple mental health vendors and the Delaware Health and Social Services Dental Van, all of them offering opportunities for care and consultation in one convenient location.

The library will also be putting together a Story Walk to promote active movement in a fun and interactive setting. The walk will begin at the library and take the participants through a series of pages in a story as they journey to the public park in Frankford and back to the library, about one mile in total. "It's simply designed to get everyone moving in a creative way, using the medium of storytelling," Wackett said. She will provide other incentives such as prizes and giveaways in addition to the joy of reading.

The Frankford Volunteer Fire Co., in conjunction with other volunteers, will provide breakfast and lunch for the event, free of charge. This is a great community event for people of all ages, and one that brings together the best of the town in healthcare and public service.
