Bethany Killmon breaks 20 minutes in Milton Irish Eyes 5K

A total of 116 runners left the Broadkill River Basin in their wake June 16 for the eighth running of the Irish Eyes 5K Dash in Milton.

About 40 runners, who also ran in Georgetown the night before, were eligible for the Triple Crown series upon the completion of the Fathers Day 5K Sunday morning in Rehoboth.

Matt Klapak, 15, Gordonsville, Va., won his second consecutive race by running 18:38. Jonathan Zubrowski in 18:43, Chris Stanley in 19:21 and Edgar Gil Rico in 19:34 were the top finishers.

Bethany Killmon was the first woman overall and placed fifth with a time of 19:35. Killmon ran for Sussex Tech and Misericordia College.

Rounding out the top 10 were Bennett Brumbley in 20:58, Blake Fitzgerald in 21:03, Luke Kempski in 21:09, David Trombello in 21:16 and Colt Merrifield in 21:23.

Stanley was the male masters winner, while Mardiny Ung won the female masters in 22:51.

The Seashore Striders Summer Racing Series continues with the Jungle Jim’s 5K at 7:30 a.m., Saturday, June 23, and the 23rd annual Bill Degnan 5K at 7:30 a.m., Sunday, June 24, at Cape Henlopen High School.
