Betty Baker West, Stockley Center retiree

Mrs. Betty Baker West, 83, of Millsboro passed away peacefully surrounded by her family and Coastal Hospice Friday, Feb. 9, 2018.

Mrs. Betty was born in Georgetown to the late Paul and Helen Hickman Elliott. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband, Norman E. Baker in 1991, and her second husband, Jacob West; a daughter, Norma J. Baker; and a sister, Martha Collins.

Betty retired from the state of Delaware where she worked as an aide and in housekeeping at the Stockley Center for approximately 20 years. She was a member of Salisbury Baptist Temple. Betty enjoyed cooking, working with flowers in her yard, keeping her home spotless and reading her Bible. She was the best mother and grandmother, and will be terribly missed.

She is survived by a daughter, Deborah Shockley and her husband Donald of Pittsville, Md.; four brothers, Harry Elliott (Carol) of Georgetown, Vernon Elliott (Lois) of Gumboro, James Elliott of Gumboro, and Roland Elliott (Bonnie) of Millsboro; five sisters, Pauline Todd of Millsboro, Reba Evans of Gumboro, Shirley Powell (Jimmy) of North Carolina, Lorraine Clark of Gumboro and Judy Wilkerson (Calvin) of Gumboro. She is also survived by one granddaughter, Dana Sandford (David) of Pittsville, Md., as well as two great-grandchildren, Kallie Bratten and Cody Bratten; and one great-great-grandchild, McCoy Lekites. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 15, at the Bethel Cemetery in Willards, Md.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Betty's memory to Salisbury Baptist Temple, 6413 Hobbs Road, Salisbury, MD 21804, or Coastal Hospice, PO Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802.
