Betty Jean McGee, loved her grandchildren

Betty Jean McGee, 88, of Bridgeville, passed away Friday, March 9, 2018, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Bridgeville May 7, 1929, daughter of the late William Nathan and Myrtle (Burris) Hastings.

Mrs. McGee was a wonderful cook and enjoyed crocheting; she was well known for her knitted dish cloths. In her earlier years, she enjoyed antiquing, traveling the country with family and friends, and working in her yard. However, her most enjoyment was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. McGee was preceded in death by her husband, Everett Ollie McGee in 2013; a grandson Brian Christopher Beard in 1967; three brothers, Cleveland, William and Donald Hastings; and two sisters, Louise Elliott and Phyllis Davis.

She is survived by two daughters; Rebecca Beard and husband David, and Patricia Passwaters and husband Milton, all of Bridgeville; one son Everett L. McGee and his wife Mel of Bridgeville; grandsons David Bret Beard and his wife Jackie of Laurel, Matthew Craig Beard (fianceé Pam Price and children Taylor and Sydney) of Laurel, and Eric Passwaters and wife Robyn of Bridgeville; two granddaughters, Dawn Milligan and husband Mike of Bridgeville, and Melinda Burdette and husband Shane of Seaford; five great-grandsons, Joshua Beard of Laurel, Justin Workman and wife Lisa of Greenwood, Nathan Milligan (Lauren) of Bridgeville, Ryan Beard of Laurel and Spencer Burdette of Seaford; six great-granddaughters, Courtney Schmitt (David) of Milford, Morgan Beard (fiancé Carl Hegerty) of Laurel, Ashley Manges and husband Darwin of Seaford, Allison Beard of Laurel, Lisa and Megan Passwaters both of Laurel; two great-great-grandsons, Kaden and Jase Workman of Greenwood; three great-great-granddaughters, Savannah Workman of Greenwood and Callie and Brystal Bowden of Seaford; and her two loving feline companions, Joey and Josie.

Graveside Services will be held Wednesday, March 28, at noon, at the Bridgeville Cemetery, North Laws Street, Bridgeville.
