Bible's insights on nature is topic in spirituality series Aug. 18

August 11, 2016

A Delaware educator in literature will be the presenter at the next Summer Spirituality Series event at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Lewes, Thursday, Aug. 18. Bible's insights on nature is the topic.

Dr. Aimee Wiest will speak on “Nature References in Biblical Verses Applied to Life Today” in the church's parish hall, 211 Mulberry St., at 7 p.m.

Her presentation will connect natural insights to ways people live now, she says. “This program will be interactive and will begin with the explanations and biblical references, and then engage members of the audience in making connections to their own life.”

Following the program, there will be a social time with ice cream.
Because of her lifelong attraction to the natural world, Wiest was nicknamed “Mother Nature” by her high school students in creative writing classes she taught throughout the 1970s. Each academic year ended with a camping trip with the students in which they experienced life's natural order. A teacher in literature at Delaware State University in Dover and Georgetown, she previously taught at the University of Maryland and Notre Dame University.  In addition to teaching literature, piano playing by ear with an emphasis upon improvisation serves as another profession.

A week later, on Aug. 25, the Rev. Tilden Edwards will discuss the human spirit and how it affects life in “Listening to Our Spiritual Heart and its Effect on our Social-Political Vision.” For a list of speakers or more about parish activities, go to www.stpeterslewes.org.
