Blessing of the animals set at area churches Oct. 1, 2

In recognition of the Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi, blessing of the animals events are set at local churches this weekend. 

All Saints' Church will hold a blessing at 4 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 1, at the church at 18 Olive Ave., Rehoboth Beach. All pets are welcome. 

St. George’s Chapel will hold a blessing at 4 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 1 at the parish hall across from the chapel on Beaver Dam Road in Harbeson. All pets are welcome. 

St. Jude The Apostle Church will hold two outdoor blessing services at 12 and 5:30 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 2, on the grounds of the church. Participants will gather at the entrance to the Religious Education Center. Participants are urged to bring a treat for their animals after the service.

Epworth United Methodist Church will hold a blessing at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 2. Everyone in the community is welcome to bring their pets to the lawn at the Bayside entrance of the church. There will also be a special time of remembrance for faithful friends who are no longer living; participants are encouraged to bring a photo or other memento of that special friend. Donations will be accepted for eastern Sussex animal shelters to assist with the work they do to find animals new homes. Useful items to donate are unopened pet food, litter, blankets, comforters, towels and treats or toys.
