A Lewes man, 30, faces strangulation and other charges after police say he went to a Milford home and choked the resident.

Brandon Barnes went to a home on Lucia Circle at 4:32 a.m. June 30 and kicked open the door, causing damage, said Detective Timothy Maloney of the Milford Police Department.

Barnes then got into a verbal fight with the victim; the two went outside because small children were inside, he said.

Maloney said Barnes allegedly began to choke the victim, and then fled the scene. A warrant was issued; Barnes turned himself in to Milford police July 3.

He was charged with second-degree burglary, strangulation, four counts of endangering the welfare of a child and criminal mischief under $1,000. He was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 2 and released on $8,500 unsecured bail. Barnes was ordered to have no contact with the victim. He will appear in Kent County Court of Common Pleas at a later date for a preliminary hearing.
