Breast cancer coalition seeks award nominations by Jan. 19

November 24, 2017

The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition is calling for nominations for the 2018 Shining Light Awards. The awards recognize individuals, businesses and healthcare institutions who have made significant contributions to the advancement of early detection and treatment of breast cancer in the greater Delaware region, and who have served to motivate and inspire others to be champions of the cause. All materials must be submitted electronically on the DBCC website by Friday, Jan. 19. For more information and to submit nominations, go to www.debreastcancer.org.

The award categories include philanthropy, survivorship, healthcare delivery and research, and business or organization. Winners will be selected by an independent selection committee in early 2018. More than one winner may be selected in each category at the discretion of the committee. The award recipients will be honored at an annual recognition reception Friday, June 8, in Wilmington.

The Shining Light Awards began in 2014 to motivate and inspire others to work together to end breast cancer. Former award winners include Steve "Monty" Montgomery and Adam Howard for the philanthropic efforts of Dewey Goes Pink, Dan Mapes of Beebe Healthcare, and Sussex County Women's Council of Realtors.

All proceeds will benefit programs that increase breast cancer awareness, promote the importance of early detection, provide access to mammograms and cervical screenings, and provide support and resources to women and men in the local community who are newly diagnosed or facing a recurrence of breast cancer.
