Breast Fest 5K filled with family connections

Will Rewig, 24, a St. Andrew’s teacher from Middletown, seized the day Aug. 19, besting the field of 245 to win the fourth annual Breast Fest 5K in 16:51. The weather was simmering and soupy for the early morning race.

Joining Rewig at the top of the men’s leaderboard were Greg Costello in 17:33, Brett Morris in 17:41, Joey Andrisani in 18:16 and Brandt Chi in 18:55.

Jennifer Brill was fifth overall and the first woman, in 18:22. Joining Brill on the women’s leaderboard were Melissa Cummings in 19:07, Elise Claffey in 20:50, Sarah Forry in 22:05 and Amalia Culpepper-Wehr in 22:11.

Amanda Ritter, 25, of Lewes is starting to figure it out and placed third in her age group in 24:17.

Fast at 50 friends Mardiny Ung (22:56) and Jackie Quigley (24:04) went 1-2 in the 50 to 54 age group.

Andre Culpepper-Wehr, 11, from Sarasota Springs, N.Y., won the 10 to 13 age group in 22:08.

Brett Morris, 27, a former Cape runner who spends more time at sea than on land, won the 25 to 29 age group in 17:41.

Andrisani, fresh off a first-place finish at the Run the Goat 5K the night before, won the 30 to 34 age group in 18:16.

Jimmy Rubin, 45, of Rehoboth won the 45 to 49 age group in 19:29. His wife Rebecca won the same age group for women as they completed a Rubin sandwich.

Sean Costello, 57, won the 55 to 59 in 20:39, joining his son Greg in the victory circle.

Unrelenting Rick Poppleton is back from injury and ran 21:50 to win the 60 to 64 age group.

Jules Woodall, 69, who is fastest in the field when combining height and age, won his age group in 26:40.

Leo Hennigan, 70, and Paul Kiefer, 72, owned their age group, going 1-2 – there was no three – in 38:00 and 38:28, respectively.

Jim Batts, 75, of Millsboro ran 28:17. He was followed by professor Bill McArthur, 77, in 33:56.

Dan Ennis, 9, of Scotch Plains, N.J., crushed the 9-and-under division with a time of 24:20.
