Brenda Jean ‘BJ’ Funderburk, retired banker

Brenda Jean “BJ” Funderburk, 65, of Rehoboth Beach, passed away in her sleep after a long battle with COPD, Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016, at Beebe Healthcare, in Lewes. She was born Tuesday, May 15, 1951, in Mobile, Ala., daughter of the late Dolly F. (Diferdinando) Brooks

Mrs. Funderburk graduated from St. Katherine of Siena High School in Wayne, Pa., in 1969. She worked for many years in banking at the County Bank of Delaware. She also was the assistant vice president of WSFS Bank, operations  manager for First National Bank of Maryland and assistant vice president at Huntington National Bank.

In 1980, she married the love of her life, Gary L. Funderburk in Whitehall, Ohio. They shared a wonderful 36 years together. She was a loving wife, sister, stepmother, aunt and friend who will be missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her mother, Mrs. Funderburk was preceded in death by her brother, Gilbert R. Brooks. She is survived by her husband, Gary L. Funderburk of Rehoboth Beach; her sisters, Barbara Mitchell and her husband Bill of Milton,  and Deborah Tucker of West Chester, Pa.; her stepdaughter Lori Whitman and her husband Chris of Solon, Ohio; and her grandchildren and nieces and nephews of Ohio and Pennsylvania.
