Brick Hotel Restaurant & Tavern to close at year’s end

June 6, 2018

After 10 years in business, Lynn and Ed Lester have made the decision to delve 100 percent into retirement. In so doing, they will be closing the historic Brick Hotel Restaurant & Tavern at the end of the year.

Over the past 10 years, the Lesters created something unique for Georgetown, now fondly referred to as The Brick, a building and business that has become the centerpiece of Georgetown. Visitors from all over the world and all walks of life come to town to enjoy this property, which consists of a 14-room boutique inn, a full-service restaurant and tavern, and an event venue, all under the roof of this National Register of Historic Places property.

While Ed has been a huge part of The Brick, he readily gives credit to Lynn for her years of sacrifices, blood, sweat and tears since 2008. Lynn said, “This hasn’t been an easy decision for me. My heart and soul is in this business, and it runs through the blood of every member of my family. Anyone who knows the restaurant business knows it’s a hard one. It’s very competitive, fraught with ongoing challenges of generating adequate local support in a small town, retaining staff and more. I’ve spent 10 years building this business, and there’s still so much more potential here. But simply put, the clock is not stopping, and Ed and I are not getting any younger. I’m in a good place now – totally fulfilled and satisfied that I’ve done all I can possibly have done with The Brick. The time is right to move on to this next chapter in our lives.”

If the Lesters have it their way, the perfect individual or group will come along who will embrace what they have created with the inn and the restaurant, choosing to continue these services in the community. “This is not going to happen overnight – I know that,” said Lynn. “The Brick will continue business as usual through the end of the year, including one last Return Day and going out with a bang New Year’s Eve. After that, absent a new tenant or purchase, our doors to the restaurant will close. The inn, however, will continue as a unique lodging option for the town of Georgetown.”
